I was saddened greatly by yesterday’s loss of Mary Tyler Moore. As someone who has risen above a great deal of struggle, her shows message and motto are a positive inspiration and she was a role model to so many. In this world, women don’t have many strong role models to look up to. We have wonderful women like Oprah, Ellen, and Michelle Obama, but in television we mostly see women who are famous for making sex tapes, partying, and having babies at 15 everywhere we look. I love watching television shows from before my time because I have no interest in the Kardashians latest escapades.
Lately I’ve been watching a lot of MeTV (Providence New Bedford) which runs shows like Petticoat Junction, The Brady Bunch, I Love Lucy, and others. I also was addicted to Little House on the Prarie on Hallmark for quite a few years! Otherwise I’m usually watching Netflix (binging the Gilmore Girls, Stranger Things, A Series of Unlikely Events, and Dance Academy) or would rather spend time reading. Call me old, call me lame, call me a looser or boring, but watching teenagers get wasted and not remember making a baby are just not for me.
We need more positive role models in today’s society and that’s what today’s lettering is about. We’re always being told we can’t do that or our dreams are too big by both family, society and big business.
We’re gonna make it after all!
Rest In Peace Mary Tyler Moore.
